International haulage company Steder Group is using Kinesis vehicle tracking to save time and money when moving freight.
Operating from its Glasgow base, Steder provides a range of services including movement of components for generator production, onward transport of containers from local ports and rail terminals and specialist warehouse and distribution activities.
Kinesis telematics was originally installed on Steder’s smaller vehicles, including an 18 tonne curtainsider trailer truck combination. However, following a successful trial period the company has recently installed the on-board tracking solution on its newly acquired fleet of DAF articulated trucks.
Using GPS technology Kinesis gives Steder comprehensive visibility of its entire fleet. Updated every 30 seconds and displayed against an easy to interpret map screen the live vehicle tracking helps Steder locate vehicles and provide real time updates, without needing to interrupt the driver.
“Having real time visibility of all our vehicles on the same easy to access, easy to use system saves us time and money and improves our customer service levels and response times,” commented Transport Manager Kenny Mair. “Live tracking can be used to inform routing and scheduling of vehicles which is essential when an urgent change of plan or new request is received. We know where each vehicle is and which one is best placed to respond.”
“The use of locational intelligence to inform planning and decision making is also delivering tangible savings in mileage and fuel consumption,” continued Mair. "This directly contributes to our bottom line and has a positive influence on our environmental impact.”
Steder also uses fuel cards from Kinesis’s sister operation UK Fuel Cards. Fuel card data integrated with Kinesis tracking can improve the management of fuel consumption with accurate MPG calculations potentially assisting in further decreasing costs and environmental emissions. Kinesis can also deliver driver performance data, including speeding, harsh braking and accelerating and idling, which can be used to monitor and improve driver behaviour for health and safety and cost control.
